During the June Wynwood Artwalk we helped curator (and collaborator) Nicole Martinez put together a big show at Awarehouse. It was a really complex exhibit,  not only because of the amount of artists involved (twenty one to be precise) but also because on opening night there were five live bands playing and we were doing visuals for them.

You can read a little bit more about the exhibit at » BlackBook Mag and » Knight Arts.

We wanted to explore flat shapes distributed in space, and after several experiments, we settled on simple arches, ordered from the smallest one in front to the biggest ones on the back.

This piece is probably one of the most successful in terms of three-dimensional illusion so far; In many cases, people had to walk closer to the piece to believe that the arches themselves were completely flat.

OutsideIn Arches was built by Zusel Escriba and developed by Nicole Martinez, Rodrigo Arcaya and Gorka Cortazar.

GaussDegauss

October 12, 2011   |   in InstallationsProjection Mapping

GaussDegauss started as a desire to experiment projection mapping into everyday objects, click presented in a different way, click and since we had a lot of non-functioning TVs from our search of old TVs for another installation, the choice was pretty simple. At first, we toyed with the idea of removing the old tubes and replacing them with white cardboard to facilitate the construction, but it was impossible to replicate the smooth curve of the CTR (specially in the older models), so at the end we decided to just paint the screens white. The projection map system was entirely developed in » vvvvand many of the skins were audio reactive.

It was a very well received piece, with one big caveat: very few people realized on their own that we were actually projection mapping the TV screens – most people simply assumed that they were turned on and being fed from a DVD player, and where quite shocked that we didn’t go “the easy way”; some people find very hard to believe that actually running synchronized multiple feeds to eleven screens is much harder than projection mapping them from a single projector.

GaussDegauss was built by Zusel Escriba, and the content developed by Nicole Martinez, Rodrigo Arcaya and Gorka Cortazar and shown at Awarehouse.
